About Chris Nancrede, EIT, ASSE 12080

Chris Nancrede, EIT, ASSE 12080, has built a reputation as a trusted authority in Legionella mitigation and waterborne pathogen prevention. As the patent holder of an advanced high-efficiency water softener developed to help limit Legionella growth conditions, he combines engineering expertise with practical field experience gained from more than 15 years working in complex building water systems. He also sits on the AAMI ST95 sterilization standards committee

Chris is a mechanical engineer and the founder and president of Legionella Control Systems, Inc., an engineering and consulting firm focused on identifying, controlling, and preventing waterborne pathogens including Legionella, nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), Pseudomonas, and related bacteria. His background in industrial water treatment and water purification systems has given him extensive knowledge of both chemical treatment methods and non-chemical control technologies used for remediation and ongoing prevention. He is frequently brought in to solve challenging Legionella issues that require specialized technical expertise and engineered solutions.

Under Chris’s leadership, Legionella Control Systems was established as an independent consulting firm with no ties to proprietary treatment equipment or chemical manufacturers. This independent approach allows recommendations to be based entirely on the needs of the facility rather than on product sales. Chris remains directly involved in every project, providing engineering assessments, water management planning, testing oversight, and mitigation strategy development tailored to each client’s building systems and operational requirements.

Organizations across healthcare, manufacturing, commercial, and long-term care sectors have relied on Chris’s expertise to help manage complex water safety challenges. His client experience includes major corporations such as Anheuser-Busch, Ford, PepsiCo, Eli Lilly, Roche, and Chrysler. His work has also supported healthcare systems and care organizations including VA Hospitals, Northwestern Medicine, IU Health, and Little Sisters of the Poor. Through this experience, Chris has become recognized for helping facilities address some of the most complex and demanding water management concerns in the industry.
